It's been a few days since we first tried out the new juicer, so we're going to catch up a bit.
Our first juicing experience was last Saturday. Night Owl juiced a carrot, Fuji apple and Anjou pear mixture. It was only lightly carroty and it was a nicely balanced juice (recipe below).
Yields 2 cups:
2 Anjou Pears
1 Fuju Apple
About 2 cups/1lb of Carrots
Sunday morning we had juiced 2 different flavors- another Carrot, Apple, Pear concoction (with one less pear, Busy Bee thought it was too carroty) and a pure Honeydew one (using half a honeydew melon).
Monday was the first time we swapped a meal for a juice. That day, we had our usual breakfast, and then we watched "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" and it convinced us to try the Reboot juicing fast. But we realized we have a lot of random food in the house. We figured a nice start would to stop buying any more food, with the exception of fruits and veggies for juicing, and slowly eat the junk in the house and work our way into purely juicing.
After deciding to be more serious about the juicing, we each had a honeydew/kiwi/spinach juice for lunch (recipe below). Busy Bee really liked this one!
Recipe Yields 1 Qt of a super green juice:
1/2 Honeydew
6 Kiwis
1 cup Baby Carrots
1/2 cup Spinach
Night Owl also tried juicing a coconut. His excitement quickly turned to frustration as he banged away at the coconut's hard shell. But he got it open, and tasted the milk, and we found it super rich... almost too rich for our liking. We might try to mix it with coconut and banana in the future. And we'll take a picture of it next time, too.
Monday night, after dinner (we had real food), we watched the documentary "Forks Over Knives" and it was very informational. Busy Bee was happy to find it explained everything she had read in "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" because Night Owl was never going to read it... but he watched it instead! Bee also wants to finally read "The China Study" and "Savor" because both have been on her shelf collecting dust.
That's about all we've done, with the exception of Tuesday's juices. But that will be in a separate post!
